Innovative 'Cure Mouthpiece' by BANSEI INSIDE LLC: Reducing Oxidative Stress

BANSEI INSIDE LLC, based in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, led by CEO Shinji Miyakawa, in collaboration with Dr. Yasuzo Nakaoki, Director of Nagisa Dental Clinic in Hiroshima, has successfully developed and patented a new product named "Cure Mouthpiece." This innovative mouthpiece reduces reactive oxygen species, aiming to revolutionize oral health care. The product is set to launch in January 2024.

The patent (No. 7339468) for the Cure Mouthpiece outlines its unique capability to stimulate the secretion of salivary glands, which in turn has a pleasant effect on the parasympathetic nerve of the autonomic nervous system. The mouthpiece sheet is developed by incorporating ingredients derived from plants traditionally used as herbal remedies into the base material of the mouthpiece sheet. This innovation aids athletes and the general public in managing their health in daily life.

The development background of the oxidative care mouthpiece is linked to Dr. Nakaoki's previous work, which focused on enhancing the body's immune system and temperature through "Warming Candy," a product designed to improve swallowing functions. However, the use of silicone material in these products posed a challenge due to its oxidative properties. To overcome this, BANSEI INSIDE used a 100% plant-based oxidative care material, creating the "Cure Mouse" which addresses both warming and oxidative care.

One of the most challenging aspects of developing the Cure Mouthpiece was determining the correct ratio of silicone (a chemical substance) to plant material (oxidative care material). Over 100 patterns were tested over eight months to perfect the mix. Athletes tested the prototypes, and continuous improvements were made to achieve the desired effects and comfort.

The Cure Mouth Sheet, integrated into the mouthpiece, allows for the reduction of reactive oxygen species anywhere and anytime, which was not feasible with traditional sports mouthpieces. It enables athletes to prevent oxidation and reduce active oxygen during training and competitions.

Looking ahead, the Cure Mouthpiece will be expanded to various applications, including as material for athletes' mouthpieces, mouth guards, night guards for bruxism, mouthpieces for sleep apnea, whitening mouthpieces, orthodontic mouthpieces, and mouthpieces for bad breath prevention. It aims for widespread use in sports where mouthpieces are essential and in international sports events, with plans for global expansion beyond Japan.
